hre ram k«:[

Jyotish is one of the six Vedangas, along with Shiksha, Nirukti, Vyakarana, Chhanda and Kalpa.

I started studying Jyotish in 1998 during Jupiter-Mercury-Jupiter, in the mahadasha of my lagnadhipati and the antardasha of my Atmakaraka. In the antardasha of my 8th lord in 2002 I joined Sri Jagannath Center (SJC) and started learning Jyotish seriously and I am now one of the designated teachers of the organization. SJC focuses on retrieving the body of knowledge from the scriptures and ancient texts. At the same time it is based on oral knowledge from Puri, Orissa, as Jyotish like pharmacoepia in Ayurveda, was decentralised in the different socio-cultural regions in India, with each region having its own interpretation of the scriptures. The oral tradition of Orissa is very similar to those of Bengal and Assam and tangentially different from that of Northern and Southern India. The uniqueness of Jyotish in SJC is that it combines the classicisms of the texts of Parashara, Jaimini , Varahamihira with the rich insights and lost techniques of oral knowledge, in line with modern anthropological theories of recording and codifying oral traditions. The emphasis is on spiritual and esoteric Jyotish with an attempt to revive the old guru-shishya parampara.

Sri Jagannath Centre is organised informally with Mercury running rampant with intense debates in e-groups like Vedic-Astrology, Sohamsa, Srijagannath and Varahamihira, along with various regional sub-groups. The knowledge is shared, discussed, torn apart amongst colleagues, friends, students and teachers. Certain individuals put in hours of research. Papers presented at the conferences are the culmination of such efforts and interactions. I have put some of my published papers and those presented in conferences across the world in the Papers link. I will not upload papers which are grossly incomplete. I also promise to write down some of my class notes as and when I get the time for the benefit of the students in the Class Notes page. I hope you enjoy.

From 2007, I have been involved with the Devaguru Brihaspati Centre which teaches online and onsite structured jyotish courses, as well as conducting workshops. I am also a certified Jaimini Scholar and I am teaching the Jaimini Upadesha Sutras through the Devaguru Brihaspati Centre in New Delhi.
