Mantra from Briddhasuryarunakarmavipaka: Om namah suryaya mama karma prakashaya prakashaya satyam bruhi bruhi swaha. Om namo narayanaya Placement of lagna lord The house where the lagna lord is placed or the paka lagna, is the most auspicious place in the horoscope. Paka leads to bhoga or consummation, and this is the arudha lagna. The second important place is the throne or the 10th house. The king of the lagna is Prajapati and the king of the 10th house is Indra. (The form of Brahma that can be worshipped is Prajapati and He is invoked when a native wishes to have good progeny) There are 33 devatas. Planets alter the tatvas, which alter us in turn. These 33 devatas comprise 8 vasus, 12 adityas, 11 rudras, Indra and Prajapati. This is the basic paradigm of jyotish. The 8 vasus are: 1. Surya 2. Chandra 3. Five tatvas (agni, prithvi, vayu, jala, antariksh) 4. Nakshtrani Vasus are the givers of light. The 8 vasus give light from which we get enlightenment and then knowledge. This is the original light, which has a control over our minds. Om namo bhgavate vasudevayaThe 12 adityas are the 12 sun signs or rashi, where the sun transits from sankranti to sankranti. The adityas are the givers of everything in our lives. Om ghrini surya adityatah The 11 rudras are the protectors. They are the strength which bind everything together. Of these 11 rudras, one is Maheshwara. Om namah bhagavate rudrayaThere are different deities for the different divisional charts. For dasamsa benefits the native should pray to the 10 dikpals, presided by Indra in the east. Lagna Lord Nakshatra Moon is mana or that which influences the mind. The lagna lord is the body of the person. The lagna lord nakshatra (henceforth LLN) depicts the nature of his intelligence. The moon and lagna nakshatra will influence the nature of mind and the intelligence. The LLN will determine the nature of the intelligence. Moon nakshatra will show what a person learns from others, his environment and the society. The LLN will represent self-learning, his own intelligence. So the moon nakshatra and the LLN represent public and self-intelligence respectively. The number of planets in kendra from the lagna will show whether the person will follow his own path. The number of planets from the moon will show whether he will follow others. If the former is more, then a person will follow his own path. If the latter is more then a person will follow others. When the moon and the lagna lord are both in kendra, then the person will try to show that the prevailing viewpoint is his when actually it belongs to the community. That is why, while calculating vimshottari dasha, there is an option from starting calculations from either chandra or lagna nakshatra, depending upon which is stronger. If a person is to take his own decisions ultimately, then it is better to take lagna nakshatra. However, moon and lagna vimshottari will function simultaneously. At any time one of the two will prevail. Lagna vimshottari will show that the person’s views will prevail while the moon vimshottari will show the external influences upon the person will prevail. The question arises which will prevail when? The one in kendra will determine. When lagna is in kendra to the moon, the moon will prevail.
